Welcome to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. The military is no stranger to our area. In 1781, the early settlers here witnessed the surrender of the British troops at Yorktown. Since the Revolutionary War, Hampton Roads has played an influential role in the history of the United States. In 1918, U. S. Government procurement of approximately 9,000 acres resulted in the creation of Camp Eustis, later designated to be Fort Eustis. The Transportation Corps was created in 1942, and in 1950 Fort Eustis became the U.S. Army Transportation Center and Fort Eustis. Today, Fort Eustis is the home of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps, and the Transportation Corps Regiment.
We want you to feel at home here, and we want to share with you, as neighbors, the many recreational areas, the places of historical interest and the many civic enterprises that abound in this region of Virginia.
Fort Eustis is the home of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps.
Fort Eustis is virtually a city in itself - complete with a shopping mall, bank, credit union, post office, hospital, chapel, a USO and Red Cross, and many other facilities. There is plenty to do during off-duty hours. Whatever your interest - crafts, theater, libraries or sports - they can be found here and at Fort Story as well. Off-post, the Hampton Roads is one of the resort and vacation centers of the East Coast. Activities abound to help you fill your every moment.
Fort Eustis is on the western flank of Newport News(see map) on historic Mulberry Island. For history buffs, there is the "historic triangle" of Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown along with more than a dozen museums within a 20-mile radius.
The Army Transportation Museum is just inside our front gate. Fort Story is located in Virginia Beach on historic Cape Henry and is the home of the Cape Henry Lighthouse.
We're proud of our past and present, and we look forward to our contributions to the Army of the XXI Century. We are integrated into the Hampton Roads, and we have a rich association with our communities as we constantly strive to make this a better place to live. We hope your stay with us will be enjoyable and that your tour of duty will be professionally challenging and satisfying.
